A clean tutorial for selling PDFs, templates, planners, ebooks and audio on Teachable — product setup, sales page, file delivery, visibility and a launch checklist.
To create and sell digital downloads on Teachable, open Digital Downloads in Teachable admin, create a new product, add name, category, description, thumbnail, upload files or add a secure external link, edit a sales page, publish it, and share its link with buyers.
Teachable supports PDFs, spreadsheets, ebooks, audio files, images, templates, stock assets, lesson plans, and more — so creators can package useful knowledge into products buyers can access fast.
A strong digital download needs one clear promise. It should save time, solve a problem, or give a ready-to-use asset. That is why templates, guides, swipe files, checklists, planners, and resource packs work well on Teachable.
Teachable is not only for courses. It also supports standalone digital products, bundles, order bumps, lead magnets, and upsells for digital downloads.
Each idea should link to one buyer pain point. For example, a creator teaching meal planning can sell a weekly meal planner, grocery list template, and recipe tracker as one digital product bundle.
A coach can sell intake forms, goal trackers, and progress sheets. A designer can sell brand board templates, icons, or social post packs.
Teachable supports major file formats so creators have room for ebooks, spreadsheets, printable files, image packs, and audio products:
.pdf, .txt, .doc, .docx, .epub
.xls, .xlsx, .csv
.jpg, .gif, .png, .tif, .webp
.mp3, .m4a, .aac
Vector images, CAD files, videos and more on higher Teachable plans.
HTML files are not supported for upload.
Before opening Teachable, plan product value. A buyer does not pay for a file — a buyer pays for saved time, less effort, better clarity, or faster progress.
Start with one sharp outcome.
Strong product names help search, sales pages, and checkout clarity. Use keywords in product names without stuffing.
| Product Type | Buyer Outcome |
|---|---|
| Workbook | Helps users complete tasks |
| Spreadsheet | Helps users calculate or track |
| PDF guide | Helps users learn fast |
| Template pack | Helps users create faster |
| Swipe file | Helps users copy structure |
Add value inside file names too. Since Teachable shows file names with file extensions to students, rename files before upload so buyers see clean names on download pages.

Clear naming also helps support. Fewer buyers will ask, "Which file should I open first?"
Log in to Teachable and open Digital Downloads from admin. Click Create Digital Download, then fill in product name, category, description, and thumbnail before saving.
Teachable also lets creators create a product from Products or from Create New Product inside the dashboard.
That line tells buyers product format, use case, main benefit, included assets, and who should use it.
For thumbnails, use clean visual branding. Show a mockup, file preview, or product cover. Avoid tiny text. A thumbnail appears during product browsing and the student experience, so clarity matters.
Find it inside Teachable admin sidebar.
Or use Create New Product from the dashboard.
Use buyer-outcome wording, not vague labels.
Format → use case → benefit → assets → audience.
Clean mockup, big text, single visual focus.
After product details, add content. Teachable lets creators add downloadable files or link to spaces such as Canva, Google Drive, Notion, and similar external tools.
This matters for template sellers:
Best when buyers should open the file with a standard reader.
Best when the asset lives inside a cloud tool buyers must copy.
Teachable states that students get access after login, then reach a download page with files added to that product. That makes secure download delivery useful for digital assets — it reduces manual email work and gives buyers a clear place to access files.
A Teachable sales page should explain product value fast. Teachable lets creators edit a product sales page inside Pages, add blocks, images, descriptions, and settings, then preview before saving.
Use Teachable sales page blocks in a clear order. Start with a headline that names the outcome. Follow with a short subheading. Add preview images, product details, buyer fit, and access notes.
Names the outcome in one line.
One subheading that sharpens the headline.
Show the file or product cover.
Bullet list of every asset included.
Audience description — be specific.
Two-line workflow buyers will follow.
PDF, Canva, Google Sheets, etc.
Strong CTA — "Get instant access".
Answer the 4-5 hesitation questions.
Use screenshots on the page. Show sample pages. Blur private sections if needed. Buyers want proof that files look polished and practical.
Ecommerce SEO benefits from keyword use, clear title tags, strong product descriptions, and image alt text. Use image alt text for product mockups — example: "Editable skincare Instagram content calendar PDF preview". That helps search clarity and accessibility.
After content upload and page edits, publish the product. Teachable says new digital download products start unpublished by default, and creators must publish and switch Product Visibility on to show the product on the All Products page.
That step matters. A product can exist inside admin but stay hidden from buyers until visibility is active.
Use direct links for launches. Teachable lets creators copy the sales page URL from Pages, then paste it into emails, social posts, and other promo channels.
Product page link in launch sequence.
Bio link to sales page.
Inline link on tutorial posts.
Link from description.
Footer evergreen link.
Permanent button on resources hub.
Teachable advises creators to make sure students have the required apps to open files — for example, Microsoft Word for Word documents. Add a short compatibility line on the sales page.
Quality control decides refund risk. A clean file pack feels premium. A messy pack feels rushed. Check these before publish:
For editable templates, include a note like: "Make a copy before editing."
For spreadsheet tools, include one sample row. Buyers understand faster when they can see how data should look.
For image packs, include folder labels. Separate web images, print images, and source files. Small details create better customer experience.
A Teachable product page needs traffic. Search, email, and social content can all help.
Start with one blog post linked to the product. Target a keyword tied to buyer needs. Example: "Instagram Content Calendar for Skincare Brands". Then place product CTA near the intro, middle, and end.
One in-depth post with the product CTA inline.
Use product mockups and outcome-driven titles.
Walk through the file on screen.
3–5 emails that build to the launch.
Quote a buyer or beta tester.
Lead magnet that previews the product.
Pair with related assets to raise value.
Social media, email marketing, bundled products, and SEO best practices can help digital download sales. Pair that with Teachable features such as order bumps, bundles, and lead magnets for stronger funnel design.
Digital downloads work well alone. They also support bigger offers — a course can include workbook downloads, a coaching package can include intake forms, a membership can include monthly templates.
Teachable supports courses, coaching, memberships, community spaces, and digital downloads in one place. That means a creator can sell a small PDF download product first, then invite buyers into a course or membership later.
Lead magnet that captures email and shows quick value.
Low-ticket digital download — first paying buyer step.
Mid-ticket teaching that uses your template.
One-to-one help on the same topic.
Recurring access to templates, lessons and community.
Digital downloads help test demand before making a full course. Teachable says downloads can help test interest in content before making a bigger product — that lowers risk.
If you prefer to see it done end-to-end, this video walks through Teachable digital product setup — admin, file upload, sales page and publish — exactly the flow above.
Before sharing a product link, review the user path from first click to file access. Pretend to be a buyer.

Direct upload + external link option.

Teachable notes that students can access published digital products from the All Products page or via a direct sales page URL. That means direct link checks matter before launch. Hidden products can still cause launch delays if the link flow is not tested.
Selling digital downloads on Teachable is simple when product value, file setup, sales page copy, and access flow all work together.
A small download can become a lead magnet, standalone offer, bundle item, or course add-on. Start small, ship clean, then grow your creator funnel from real buyer feedback.
